What is going on?

The staff at sfo.com have made a difficult decision and will cease sfo.com brand full service email and hosting operations. After 17 years of providing continuous full service internet service, we are faced with uncertain economic conditions and unable to meet the increasing demands for what is proving to be complex and expansive technology. The demands involved in operating and supporting a commercial email server and subdomain web server for sfo.com have become economically unfeasible under the sfo.com business model. In today’s email marketplace, there are other well-funded free email and webmail choices which are readily available and in this environment we can no longer remain competitive and offer both full service hosting and full service support. The owners of sfo.com are instituting the following exit strategy and will be putting the domains sfo.com and sfo.net up for sale.

We have been migrating your email accounts and data from the old california.com mail and hosting system to the new SFO.com mail and hosting system. It is our intention to continue our new operations and offer self managed hosting and email services only for private hosted domain names and under SFO.com. We would have liked to keep things they way they have been for 15 years, however due to circumstances involving changes in ownership, technical difficulties and economic issues we are sad to announce it was necessary to close the california.com operations and services under the california.com brand we offered and supported.

The new sfo.com hosting and email servers will continue operating using the automated cpanel and whmcs billing as a self management system. All california.com domain products will be automatically changed to sfo.com - California.com will no longer be offered as an email address or web address. We will continue to offer a customer managed hosting, DSL, dialup and email servers for our sfo.com and current domain hosting customers.

Why all the changes?
Today we have a new environment, your operating system and software are configured to be optimized by the internet and email has become a commonly accepted utility, surpassing the volume of postal snail mail. Vmail and Voice over IP are moving into the mainstream and the Web is now essential to information sharing and commerce. Online services need to be configured to be auto-magic. The online experience has evolved and technology evolution has been an ongoing process. The changes to our service and our staff reflect the changes in the industry and the fact that you are probably connected to the internet 24/7.

Why all the new company names?

We have some new company names and relationships.
We started our company as Global InfoNet, changed the name to California.com, and we will now working under the Sfo.com brand. The changes in name also reflect the changes in direction and mission for our staff. We have been refining what we do and how we do it. We are moving back to our roots and redesigning ourselves to better serve our community. The changes are also a reflection of the new economic and technological realities of the internet.

SFO.com is the name of the new commercial networking and hosting operation - using standardized open source technology - we are building fully supported automated and customer managed services. SFO.com Hosting operations and email operations will be conducted and serviced by SFO.com. Bay Area Network Systems located in Fremont CA.,will be the network and hosting services provider. EcoNetwork.net (the Socially Responsible Internet Company) will expand its work in the public benefit arena providing community based internet training and development.

What has Improved?

We have entered into a contract with Support Pro services - a world wide support consortium of support technicians with headquarters in the United States. Customer and Technical Support will be available during business hours and they are dedicated trained specialists in the specific networking services we will be offering. In our former business model our staff needed to be a jack of all trades and we were masters of none. Our staff and our company will work to master specific skills, reignite our dedication and maintain a clear focus.

We have an internet standard open source operating system, automated communication and robust easy to use customer self managed hosting system. We will offer a suite of fully supported services unlike anything we have ever offered before. It will be affordable, online tutorials will be available and the services will have technical and customer support teams in place.

What does this mean for you?

You will have an outstanding internet experience. Your internet services will be easier to use and there will be a knowledgeable support team that will be accessible and available. You won’t need us to make simple account changes, ftp, download or make offline backups. We hope you will have fewer delays in service. However when you need us - live human beings, who know what they are doing, will be there to help. You will also have more choices. You will have access to easy to understand, step-by-step tutorials that are integrated into the system.

It has taken us almost two years to build out the new system. A system that allows you to control your own internet experience and during that time we have also tried to support the old system. Now everthing will be migrated to the New System and we think you will be amazed.
